So on LinkedIn, I came across this post that had gone viral. It was written by none other than Gary Vaynerchuk.

It caught my eye because it had that one key word that I spend every waking hour of my recent professional life thinking about: mentor.

Exhibit A: The viral LinkedIn post

Judging by the number of responses and likes, it seemed like the general population of LinkedIn agreed as well.

But there’s a significant gap here.

60% of individuals report not having a mentor in their career. We can safely assume that a significant population of that 60% have had or currently have a manager.

It sounds like to us that there is a fatal flaw in managerial training and team expectations. 57% of people have left a job to get away from a bad manager.

Is there a disconnect between what individual contributors believe is a great manager and what Talent Management deems is a capable manager?

We don’t have all of the answers, but we sense a need here.

Your people need mentorship. Not just a one-off performance discussion, but true long-term mentorship.

For those of you who can relate to seeking that mentorship from your manager, we want to hear your thoughts!

Have you ever had a great manager?
